FLIGHT TRAINING COSTS

Recreational Permit: $6,550

Private Pilot Licence $8,445

Commercial Pilot Licence $12,825*

CAUTION - QUOTED PRICES CAN BE MEANINGLESS!

The total cost to get a licence depends not only on the rate per hour, but more significantly on the number of hours that it takes you to complete the course. If you get poor instruction at a low rate, you will definitely not be licensed in the minimum number of hours and your total cost will be much higher than the basic figures quoted above. If you get good instruction and do your homework, your hours to licensing and, therefore, your total cost, will be less.

The costs above are based on Transport Canada’s minimum flight times for licensing. For example, the private pilot licence requires a total of 45 hours, which includes 30 hours dual and 15 hours solo. The cost quoted above are based on these minimum hours. Be advised that the national average now exceeds 80 hours. At Vital we are proud of our average of 58 hours, but note that even we are significantly more than the minimum. Why the differences? The answer is simple - one or more of these factors: Poor School; Poor Instructors; Poor Student; or Poor Weather. All can be assessed before you start. If you are not sure about the school or the instructor - shop around - get references. If you are not sure about the student (yourself) take some aptitude tests to see if you have what it takes before you commit yourself to any expense. You can even beat the weather problem by starting your Private Licence in the spring and completing your Commercial training at Vital’s Arizona desert camp in the winter.

The key to success is knowledge - not skill. The more home study that you do and the more you remember between lessons - the less it will cost you to get your licence

FINANCING: Provincial Student Loans are limited and available for the Commercial Training* only. Loans that may be used for Private Training are available through selected banks.

* All commercial training is conducted outside of Canada (see "Special Program" and "Desert Camp") and although costs are indicated here in Canadian Dollars, payments are made in the USA.
