EMPLOYMENT - THE AVIATION JOB MARKET

Lots of opportunities, but no guarantees

The new pilot jobs are there, but you have to know how to get them. Plan to get the job you want before you start training. At Vital we prepare our students for employment first.

The job market is an up-side-down pyramid. Airline pilots at the top represent 75% of all pilots employed in aviation. Bush pilots are only 1% of the job market - but this is where the new Commercial Pilot has to start. Nobody can go straight to being an airline pilot because it is hours of experience you need - not paper qualifications

Most outsiders do not realize is that it is the Insurance Companies that determine initial employment. Accident rates are higher among low-time pilots. Therefore employers have to pay huge premiums to cover you on your first job. Until you have accumulated 1000 hours of Pilot-In-Command (PIC) experience you will be considered a risk. Your first job may be with a small operator who cannot afford insurance at all. He also can’t afford an accident, so your selection and acceptance will be very strongly based on the reputation of pilots from the same school who have gone before you. This is the reason why Vital Aviation Ltd. restricts its enrollment to dedicated students who are going to work hard at becoming good pilots. You and the well trained people who have graduated before you, create a reputation for our school that benefits everyone.
