Private Pilot License Ground School

Whether your aim is to fly for fun or to become a career pilot, Private Pilot License (PPL) Ground School is the place to start your flight training. The more ground knowledge you have, the more likely you are to enjoy your flight training and feel confident with what you are doing once you’re in the air. You will also be more likely to develop good flying habits from the get-go! This course provides an important introduction to the theoretical basis of flying and is an inexpensive way of finding out if flight school is for you. Whether your aim is to fly for fun or to become a career pilot, Private Pilot License (PPL) Ground School is the place to start your flight training. Our experienced and talented instructors will instill the confidence you’ll need to feel comfortable in the cockpit once you start flight training.

Our ground school will give you the required knowledge to write the Transport Canada exam

The Private Pilot Ground School is 45 hours long and covers the following topics.

  • Theory of Flight
  • Meteorology
  • Navigation
  • Instrumentation
  • Air Law
  • Critical decision making
  • Flight operations

In-person Ground School Course Schedule

PPL Ground School is offered twice per year at Vital Aviation, once in the Spring and once in the Fall. Classes are held nightly two days per week over a course of eight weeks.

Our current Ground School course is operating from April 4 to May 24 inclusive on Monday and Thursday evenings from 1900hrs-2200hrs. This course is FULL.

Our next Ground School Course is tentatively planned to run from mid September 2022 to mid November 2022. We anticipate high demand for our fall Ground School Course, so we recommend that you reserve your seat early!  


Online Ground School

Our Online PPL Ground School is offered only to students who are enrolled to fly in Nanaimo at Vital Aviation. Course material is presented online and is self directed. Online learning is directly supported by your primary Flight Instructor upon commencement of flight training at Vital Aviation, and all letters of recommendation are obtained through your Flight Instructor.
